About the book
S. E. Hinton started writing the outsiders when she was in 6th grade; it was the third book she wrote. One of the ideas she used for her book came from when a group of Socials at the place she lived beat a greaser after he came out from the movie theater. The greasers were a group of people in the city she inhabited but they didn’t have as much social and financial conditions as the Socials which were a group of people that were rich. Another idea for the book came from when one greaser in her class that had a kind of hair that suited him dyed his hair blonde. The character of the story she refers to as the one she could be is: Ponyboy.
